Hidden skills
Resumes from immigrant and refugee workers often understate what the person can actually do. Astris HR fills the gap. From someone's past jobs, we identify the skills almost anyone in that role would have, and we show the reasoning so a reviewer can check it.
How we find the skills
We start with a carefully built list for the jobs refugee and immigrant workers hold most often, then fill in everything else.
For common roles in logistics, agriculture, hospitality, light manufacturing, and healthcare support, we use a list of skills built and reviewed by people who know these jobs. The results are consistent and highly reliable.
When a role isn't on that list, Astris HR works out 4 to 8 likely skills. We stay cautious and include only skills the worker would clearly use on a normal day.
Titles vary from one employer to the next. "Senior Line Cook" is recognized as a line cook, and "Forklift Operator II" as a forklift operator, so small wording differences don't cause a match to be missed.
Every skill we add shows where it came from — the past job it's based on, and how confident we are. Reviewers see the reason behind each skill, not just the answer.
We compare the skills we find against what's already on the resume, so we never repeat something the candidate already listed.
When a candidate's job is unusual and we can't be confident, we list fewer skills rather than pad the profile with guesses.
Why this matters
The gap between what a refugee or immigrant wrote on their resume and what they can actually do is often where Astris HR proves its value.
| Modest resumes | A pediatrician from Kabul writes "physician." An Afghan farming-cooperative supervisor writes "farmer." Both have five to seven valuable skills they never thought to list. Astris HR brings them back into view. |
| Different job titles | Jobs from other countries don't always line up with US job titles. We identify the skills first, so a candidate can be matched by what they can do rather than by the exact name of their old role. |
| Better matching | The skills we find feed directly into how Astris HR ranks candidates. Someone who never wrote "pallet jack" can still surface for warehouse roles that need it. |
| Use it on its own | This can be used as a standalone feature. Send us a person's past jobs and the skills already on their resume, and we return the additional skills we found, each with a confidence level. |
